Thursday is National Cheeseburger Day, a full 24 hours set aside to honor one of America’s most iconic eats.
Legend has it, the cheeseburger was invented in 1924 when a California teenager, Lionel Sternberger, got a little adventurous behind the grill. He tossed a slice of American cheese on a hamburger at his dad’s shop, took a bite and boom, the cheeseburger was born.
No matter how you stack it, it’s easy to see why there’s an entire day devoted to a slab of beef and cheese between two buns. To mark the occasion, restaurants nationwide are offering special deals and discounts.
